Biokar CSD Method – Cronobacter Detection

The Biokar CSD Method is a validated rapid detection system for Cronobacter spp. in powdered infant formula, raw materials, and production environment samples. It combines a selective enrichment phase using CSD supplement with subsequent plating on CCI Agar, producing clear blue to blue-green colonies for presumptive Cronobacter detection within 37–39 hours. This method is NF VALIDATION certified according to ISO 16140-2 and fully complies with ISO 22964.

Importantly, the same enrichment broth used in the CSD method can also support simultaneous Salmonella detection via the Biokar IRIS Salmonella® method—making it an efficient dual-target workflow for critical microbiological monitoring in infant nutrition industries.

Salmonella Enrichment Buffer

> Designed for Acidic Products:

  • Ideal for food and feed with pH lower than 4.5.

> Double-Strength Buffered Peptone Water:

  • Ensures effective pre-enrichment of Salmonella.

> Standards Compliant:

  • NF EN ISO 6579-1 (Detection and serotyping of Salmonella spp.)

  • NF EN ISO 6887-1 & 6887-4 (Sample prep and dilution protocols)

> Validated for Rapid Methods:

  • Compatible with IRIS Salmonella® and SESAME Salmonella TEST®.

> Versatile Use:

  • Can be used in any method requiring double-strength Buffered Peptone Water.

CSD Method for Cronobacter Detection:

> Quick Detection:

  • Detects Cronobacter in milk powders (with or without probiotics), infant ingredients, and environmental samples.

> Easy Confirmation:

  • After enrichment, use CCI agar to confirm the presence of Cronobacter.

> Certified Method:

  • NF VALIDATION certified for detecting Cronobacter in milk powders, ingredients, and environmental samples.

Applicable for:

> Infant milk powders (with or without probiotics) and ingredients in amounts of 0 to 50 g and 50 to 375 g.

> Production environment samples.

> ISO Compliant:

  • Follows ISO 22964: 2017 for accurate Cronobacter detection.

> Enriches Both Salmonella & Cronobacter:

  • CSD supplement helps enrich both Salmonella and Cronobacter in milk powders and environmental samples.

> Standard Methods:

  • Based on EN ISO 22964: 2017 for Cronobacter and the IRIS method for Salmonella.

The CSD method provides a rapid and efficient way to detect Cronobacter spp. in human food products as well as in samples from the production environment.
